What is the BMI?
The body mass index relates weight to height: weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. The WHO uses it to classify weight: below 18.5 underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 normal, 25 to 29.9 overweight, and 30 or more obese.
It is a quick screening value, not a diagnosis. Athletes with a lot of muscle can have a high BMI without excess fat.
