JSON Formatter

Format, validate and minify JSON with clear error messages.

What is JSON?

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight text format for exchanging structured data. It is used by almost every web API and in countless configuration files.

This tool checks whether your JSON is valid, re-indents it so it is easy to read, or strips all whitespace to make it as compact as possible. Invalid input is reported with its line and column.

How to use the JSON Formatter

  1. 1Paste your JSON into the input field.
  2. 2Choose Format or Minify and adjust the indentation.
  3. 3Copy or download the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and formatting happen entirely in your browser.

Why does my JSON show an error?

Common causes are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted keys and comments. The error message points to the exact position.

Does sorting keys change my data?

It only changes the order of object keys. Values and array order stay the same.
